-The creators of StoryKeeper™

The Common Sense Corporation™ evolved out of the search for an automated solution to the effective management of both short and long-term operations of an Edmonton, Alberta, Canada based HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) services and contracting business. The company was co-founded by the experienced HVAC industry entrepreneurs, Claudia and Kelly Mahdiuk. Mr & Mrs Mahdiuk have owned and operated an industry leading HVAC business for nearly two decades. Always aspiring to greater levels of profitability through continuous improvements to the execution of their business, The Common Sense Corporation was created to commercialize the innovations this philosophy created.

Initially, however the products and service offered today had their humble beginnings as a set of efficient, yet manual, business practices. In 1996, not satisfied with the compromises present in the manual business processes, a critical decision was made to automate, through a software application, the daily activities inside the HVAC business. The search for a business management application that satisfied their list of requirements proved fruitless and culminated in the decision to fund the development of a custom-built application that was tailored to the operation of the business. The application’s development process was to reinforce a number of key ideas the HVAC business had developed over years of successful operation.

The first version of StoryKeeper was put into service on the 25th of May 1997. StoryKeeper was so successful in continually adding to the bottom-line, a decision was made in February of 2000 to commercialize the application. The commercialization effort was perfectly timed to capitalize on the proven successes of the Internet and web-based application architecture. The timely arrival of an experienced software architect, Chad Smith, to The Common Sense Corporation catalyzed the team’s efforts and the HVAC business went live with the web-based StoryKeeper v2.0 on 6 June 2002.

The flexibility afforded by the web-based thin-client architecture of StoryKeeper allows businesses to increase their competitive advantage through lower operating cost and improved employee productivity. Today, The Common Sense Corporation aims to deliver this competitive product to all like minded small business owners.

The common sense business strategies Kelly and Claudia learned, as young entrepreneurs, are still the driving force in their businesses today. The StoryKeeper™ system they designed reflects their commitment of empowering people to manage and maximize opportunities throughout the course of business.
